Speech Title: Harnessing AI for Assessing of Neurodegenerative and Neurodevelopmental Disorders from Facial Expressions, Voice and Tablet Handwriting
Abstract: With the increasing availability of sensors that accurately capture rich behavioral data, AI-based discovery of digital biomarkers for neurodegenerative diseases has become a reality. In particular, facial expressions, voice and on-tablet handwriting can be acquired using cameras, microphones and tablets, sensors that are accurate, low-cost, environmentally friendly and non-invasive. These modalities can also be collected remotely, reducing the need for repeated hospital visits.
In this talk, we present our recent work on the detection and stratification of neurodegenerative diseases, specifically Parkinson’s disease and Alzheimer’s disease, based on facial expressions, voice and on-tablet handwriting. We will also discuss our ongoing efforts to extend these technologies and models to the detection and monitoring of children with neurodevelopmental and learning disorders, such as autism and dysgraphia, highlighting both the opportunities and the specific challenges of this younger population.
